Kiwapower and Murakami Manufacturing México (“Murakami”) are pleased to announce the successful start of operations of a 480 kW solar photovoltaic system located on the rooftop of Murakami’s automotive manufacturing facility in Zacatecas, Mexico. The system is composed of about 1,200 modules.
Murakami entered into a Solar Energy Supply Agreement under which Kiwapower provides solarenergy-as-a-service to Murakami’s facility in Zacatecas. Kiwapower as the owner of the solar system, is responsible for its installation, monitoring, management, and maintenance.
Kiwapower empowers Commercial & Industrial businesses in Mexico to achieve their energy transition goals by offering solar energy solutions that require no investment and that are simple and worry-free.
Murakami said “At Murakami we have the intention to reduce our environmental impact whenever we can. In Mexico, our facility is located in Zacatecas where we have access to a great solar resource, so it made sense to implement a rooftop solar solution. We worked with Kiwapower because of their business model where solar electricity is offered as a service. That made the implementation really simple for us and also really fast. We also trust their professionalism and dedication thanks to their affiliation with Marubeni Corporation”
The photovoltaic system is expected to generate approximately 1,000 MWh annually, enough to supply the needs of 500 Mexican families, and avoid more than 575 tons of CO2 emissions, supplying about 60% of the facility’s total power consumption.
Mr. Keisuke Moriyama, Director of Kiwapower, said “Kiwapower is very honored to have been selected by Murakami as their long-term on-site power supplier for their pristine manufacturing plant in Mexico; our team looks forward to continuing diligently serving Murakami over the coming years, always based on the highest quality and service standards.”
Murakami Manufacturing México is a subsidiary of Murakami Corporation, Japan’s top automotive rear-mirror manufacturer and with 140 years of history. Murakami established operations in Zacatecas, Mexico in 2014. The facility produces exterior rear-mirror for various automotive manufacturers.
